SafeLightTM Pulsed UV Water Disinfection & Remediation

The heart of SafeLight is an environmentally-friendly flash lamp unit that remediates bad (or unknown) integrity water. Mimicking the natural restorative effects of sunlight, the inside of the SafeLight generator produces ultra-short, yet high-intensity pulses of UV and visible light that is about 100,000 times brighter than the sunlight that bathes the surface of the earth.

The Pulsed UV light (and electrical consumption) is only utilized upon flow demand, and always only in the precise amount required. A single commercial SafeLight unit (up to 20 gallons per minute water flow) can deliver up to 28,000 gallons per day of “peace of mind” pristine water. Electrical power brownouts (and even blackouts) do not adversely affect the performance, because the failsafe operation of SafeLight delivers up to 400 gallons of safe water, even without electricity! For an average home in the USA, this is about 2 days of water consumption.

Besides SafeLight Pulsed UV light, all other commercially-available forms of UV disinfection use Continuous-Wave UV light, which is always powered “on”, consuming electricity (even if the water is not flowing, and no further disinfection is needed). These Continuous-Wave UV lamps require mercury, which is a well-known dangerous neurotoxin, in order to produce UV. SafeLight Pulsed UV lamps are filled only with small amounts of inert gases that naturally occur in clean air.

These are the reasons why the US Environmental Protection Agency has recently funded research into exploring the feasability of Pulsed UV lamps as a benign alternative to the toxic mercury Continuous-Wave UV lamps, and as a new “best available technology” for water disinfection applications. The published results of this ground-breaking Pulsed UV disinfection research are impressive, showing that for the tested microbes Pulsed UV produced more efficient microbial destruction than mercury Continuous-Wave UV lamps.
